dc.description.abstract Dated (p. 40): From the Castle the twentieth day of June, 1689. "Written by a member of the Council of Governor Andros, as a vindication of the deposed government, and in reply to 'The declaration of the gentlemen, merchants, and inhabitants of Boston, and the countrey adjacent.' It was first published anonymously, in 1689, at Boston or elsewhere in the colonies, under caption: 'The present state of New-England impartially considered, in a letter to the clergy.' The text of the London edition differs considerably from that of the American edition"--NUC pre-1956 imprints. Reproduction of original in the Huntington Library.
