"Written by a member of the Council of Governor Andros, as a vindication of the deposed government, and in reply to 'The declaration of the gentlemen, merchants, and inhabitants of Boston, and the countrey adjacent.' It was first published anonymously, in 1689, at Boston or elsewhere in the colonies, under caption: 'The present state of New-England impartially considered, in a letter to the clergy.'
