One of the recent new deposits with the Oxford Text Archive has been a copy of Beowulf created by B.R Hutcheson of Columbia University , New York. Taking the basic text from Krapp & Dobbie (the electronic version of the Anglo-Saxon Poetic Records corpus) Mr Hutcheson has changed the editorial emendations to reflect the original manuscript readings. This restoration involved the rigerous comparison with Zupitza's facsimile. In addition some punctuation is taken from Klaeber, while several readings where the manuscript is illegible are taken from K. Kiernan "Beowulf and the Beowulf MS (Rutgers UP, 1981). While not all of the readings coincide with Klaeber, some were confirmed with comparison with Chambers & Wyatt edition of Beowulf and/or with Wrenn's edition. The text has been proof-read five times (altough at least one error has been noted) and should therefore represent the original manuscript much more closely than the ASPR version. =l.c. thorn; =u.c. thorn; =l.c. eth; . . .
