Louis XVI's appointment of Conrad Alexander Gerard as Minister Plenipotentiary appears on p. [11]-12. A variant state (Evans 16147; copy at New York Public Library) has 34 p. only. The special title page to the treaty of alliance is absent, as is the appointment of Gerard on p. [3]-4. The special title page to the treaty of amity and commerce immediately follows the general title page.
