The present state of Spaine. Translated out of French

Abstract

French original not traced; probably a translation of: L'estat d'Espagne. Avec le proces verbal de l'hommage faict par l'ayeul du roy Philippess .. au roy de France Loys XII., published in the same year in the Low Countries. The translation is sometime attributed to Richard Sergier (who signs dedication) and, less probably, to Sir Lewis Lewkenor. Printer's name from STC. Running title reads: The state of Spaine. Another issue of STC 22996 with added quires F-G⁴ H² . As *1 of STC 22996, the dedication to R. Sonds, was printed as H2 of STC 22997, it is clear that both "issues" were printed at the same time. Whether the copies of STC 22996 are imperfect or represent a distinct issue is uncertain--STC.
