<2A, F.>2 Messrs. Hubbard & Dowd, of Boston, Mass., had
(1950) a harpsichord bearing upon the top and bottom keys
the inscription: <1FA 1677>1. The instrument is Italian in
style, of cypress in a red painted case. Compass C/E-C,
4 octaves with short octave; 2 X 8' stops in movable slides.
<2A, I.>2 A clavichord in the Kunsthistorisches Museum,
Vienna, bears the initials <1IA>1 on the nameboard. These
refer presumably not to the maker but to a previous owner
Ignaz Assmayer (1790-1862), Hofkapellmeister, who was
a friend of Schubert's. It had belonged earlier to two other
Hofkapellmeister: Josef Eybler (1765-1846) and Adalbert
Gyrowetz (1763-1850). Presented by the violin maker
Gabriel Lembo%ck in 1873. (Ges. d. Musikfreunde nr. 4.)
