Quando il signor Guid Ubaldo di Montefeltro, duca
d'Urbino passo* di questa vita, io insieme con alcun'altri
cavalieri che l'aveano servito restai alli servizi del duca
Francesco Maria della Rovere erede e successor di quello
nel stato; e come nell'animo mio era recente l'odor delle
virtu* del duca Guido e la satisfazione che io quegli anni
veva sentito della amorevole compagnia di cosi* eccellenti
ersone, come allora si ritrovarono nella corte d'Urbino,
Cortegiano; il che io feci in pochi giomi, con intenzione di
castigar col tempo quegli errori, che dal desiderio di pagar
tosto questo debito erano nati. Ma la fortuna gia* molt'anni
n'ha sempre tenuto oppresso in cosi* continui travagli, che
o non ho mai potuto pigliar spazio di ridurgli a termine,
che il mio debil giudicio ne restasse contento. Ritrovandomi
