VVE have from Palerma / that there was at Messina al manner of provision made / against the coming of the Prince Philebert / and that the Vice King had caused al the shipps to be arrested / for to serve to this Catholicq army and that many instruments of warr were ready for some enterprise.

By Genua is confirmed out of Spaine that Bo [...] Rodrigo Calderon is openly strangled / and his goods confiscated / because of some murther wher of he is the cause / and that there ar remit­ted of his goods for the lowe Contryes 600. thou­sand crownes.

It is written from Mijlan that the 7. Catho­licq Cantons / doe not holde with the Grisons at al / neyther also have they bin present at the jour­ny held at Baden / which is [...]eld by the Confede­rate for a graet despysing / they ar also to come in armes togyther.

Si [...]ce the last burning that the Hongres have bone in Marcvelt and in Austria / it is sayd that t e same hath continued yet two whole dayes after / so as there ar an hondert viliages burnt / and that ther fore the Emperour hath put ordre that fower thousand men of the other garrisons both Horsemen and footmen shal be put into this town: and because Presbourg was to be besidg / they have put out al the folkes which were fled in it out of all other places rond about / also that the two Regiments which were in the suburbes / ar gone into the city / after that they have burnt the sand suburbes / it continues that the Budiani with his Hongres do much hurt / for which cause many do flue [...]ere for refuge.

The Marquis of Iagerendorp with his folkes is jonned with Bethlehem Gabor he is gone from Thurna / and ar by S. Georges at Wort­berg / likewise also the old Comte of Turna / Hof­kirken / as General over the duytsh folkes / togy­ther with the maister of the artillery.

Vpon the 18 of this moneth / there ar patentes come ont / that because under pretext of soldiers / so well hier as in the Land there is much robbe­rn and spoile made / that ther fore / all those that ar without master as also all unknowen persons hier al yding / and which have no pasport / shall depart from the city.

Tabor doeth stil hold out / the 18 of this moneth they have come out and killed above an hondert of the Emperour folkes / the Comte Mansvelt is said to goe now for to help them.

The miserable estate of an hondert and twenty villages in Marcvelt burnt by the Hongres doe continue / the Marquis of Iagerendorp is joyned whith Bethlehem Gobor / wel 20. thousand strong and have besiedg Presbourg about an myle of from the city / the pest is strong within the citey / and because they can gett no victualls but from hence / it is to be feared that the passage shall be cutt of.

It is written that the Budiani doeth marche this waye vith is thousand for to joine himself with the Marquis of Iaegrendorp / he is to come to Crembs / and then twards Moravie to Beth­lehem / hier is also a great feare for as is sayd / the Emperour is to depart from hence within 14. dayes / but none knowes where / hier ar wel 6000. fled people / which for the most p rt have lost all they have / and so must goe a begging.

Here is great feare in this Land of Austria be­cause of the Hongres / ther fore the Bishop of Salts­bourg hath sent one thousand musquetiers to the Emperour for help / the Archiduck Leopold was also at Saltsbourg he is now gone from thence to Dienna / on thousand men should folow him. Tho­se Lords arrested ar not yet loose / but have good hope from the Due of Bavieres / to be delivred by him / onely in paying to the town and garrison 32. thousand Florins.

The 13. 14. and 15 of this moneth / the soldiers of Bavieres have short upon Mansvelt / wel an hon­dert shotts but nor hurt above 20. persons and be­cause some pieces of ordonnance ar placed upon the mount for to shoot upon Mansvelt ther fore doeth Mansvelt himself cause 200. men to fortify with al speed / and for to prepare a place for ordon­nance / the 13. of this moneth / ther hath also bin sēt to him three thousand yron boullets / 50 Waggons with a somme of mony / and 25. masters of ordon­nance / theyr great ordonnance shoots 48. ponds of yron: they doe scarmish one another dayly.

After that the Spaniards have taken that hou­se of Steyn in the Pals under Worms / which be­longs partly to the Palts / partly to the Bishop of Worms / and is also a passage / they have divided themselves into two parts on the one and on the other syde of the Rhijn: it is like ther will be some thing done shortly.

They writt from Worms / that those of the Pals have taken agayn that house of Steyn with hard shooting upon it / and that from thence they ar gone to Gernscheym: we shall here the issue of it.

Considering that the French Ambassador goeth about to deceave us bp the Spanish practises / and to bring us under the servitude of Spaine / so it is that the three Confederats will no longer wayt / but will labour by armes to recover the lost land / and for this cause ech confederat shall bring 5000. men in the field / which shall goe on with the first: the sayd Ambassador is dayly to returne whence he came.

The five quarrers have desyred of us to lett [Page]passe the soldiers levied for the King of France / but it hath bin refused so to doe all obout / whe­reupon ther might will be troble rise among the confederat.

Within fewe dayes? 15 Copanies of the Pals folkes both horsemen and footmen / have taken thē quarter into these villages of the Bishop as Dorst / Ruppensbach / Niderkerken / Hambach? Dieder­speit / Meckan / and Gensheym / wherupon their clownes of Meckan putting themselves in armes have killed some soldiers / for which cause the sol­diers have sett upon them and killed 16. of them / one house burnt / and many spoild: the country­men flee hier with their wives and children in great nomber / that it is pitye to behold / and the soldiers have sent to daye one countryman for to warne the other to come home againe and prepare meat / which if they doe not / they will sett all the villages on fyer / the other Soldiers also are to take their quarter to morow to Brureyn.

Monday last were five villages of the Pals ta­ke by force / and yesterday 2. more / and it is ankno­wen when ther will be an end / they hope to have hast help from other Princes: these villages taken ar all spoild / and the goods of them caried to Franckendal and other places.

The Colonel Obertrout came jesterday to Berg­strate with his soldiers / ther wilbe a fight: but bicause he is to strong for the Spaniards / they shall not be able to withstand: Obertrout hath sent them word to make good cheere in the house of Stem / and that he will come to visit them: the Pals ar also all assembled to day by Laden­bourg.

The Marquis Spinola is passed torough the Land Gulic with his army / and gone twards Rinberg / from which he had caused the shipps of Rhoer / Ersoy and Lip for to make a shippsbridge / which hath bin effected with hast by all such per­sons skilfull in that thing: the [...]paniards doe cau­se here a great deale of bread to be backt: which is caryed with shipps twards Rimberg.

Those of the fort of the Priests-bonnet / had lett passe a shipp wholly laden with al manner of provision and bier but afterwards have caused the same shipp to be brought agayme and arrested the same but the reason ther of is not knowen.

The Marquis Spinola is this morning come with his courtyers in this town / his folck ar yet on the other syde of the Rhijn by Orsoy / Berck and other villadges rond about: they said that the bridg shalbe brought to morow ready / and put be­fore this city / for to passe over the soldiers / but where they intend no man knowes yet.

They armp of the Prince of Orange is by Eme­ric where they have munstered / and lodged here and there in the villadges by Rees / they have all things so wel bridg and other necessaries in a rea­dines and with great quantity: what they shall effect / the tyme wil cleare.

In France / ther is no other likelihood but of warres / the peste doe beginne in the Kings Camp therfore the army is divided / there is among other one great Lord dead keeper of the Kings scale.

They writte from Hambourg that those sol­diers which were discharged by the King of Dane­marck / are agayn taken in service / and in the mea­ne tyme that there ar many soldiers within Ham­bourg wher upon it hath bin declared with the sound of the dromme that they must departe the city with in 24 houres / oud forbidden to give them anp loging, It is sayd that the King of Swede should have beseidge the city of Riga / in Lyfland.
