For here be cōpe [...] diously gathered togyther, the thinges that peraduēture thou myghtest seke after in the Byble a greate whyle. And here thou mayste sone fynde wher­wythe thou shalte be able, not onely to cure thyne owne woū des but also to reconforte thy neyghbour beynge fallen in to any aduersitie. And morouer to make strōge and encoura [...] the feblenes of mannes con [...] ence, wyth these most dele [...] [...]le scriptures of the great mercy of God. For al consolacyon [Page] or cōforte of man, shall sauour but lyke in the, after that thou hast ones tasted of this. Thy phisicion, thy wyfe, thy parentes and frendes do promise y nothyng but bodely helth and put the in hope of lenger lyfe, but the worde of god doth put the in hope of the lyfe euerla­stynge, and causehth the to su­stayne the hand? of god wyth all pacyence, and to witstande the feare of death with a bolde courage, euen as it were with a stronge bulwarke, wherfore moost gentle reoder, I beseche the to take in wrath this wor­ke such as it is, beinge bestowed only to thy vse, and leuynge al contagyous waters & styn­kynge fylthy pudels that may infecte thy mynde wyth errour heresye and sedycyon: Drynke largely out of thys vncorrupt and pure wel of our sauiours [Page] the knowlege of his hygh me [...] cy, And in the meane tyme consyder how thou art bounde to eschew those ii. euyls, wherof the prophet Ieremy doth speake in thys wyse▪ My peopleHiere. 2 haue commytted. ii. euyls they haue forsaken me that am the well of the water of lyfe, and haue dygged out broken c [...]s­ternes that can holde no wa­ter, but rather preace thou boldely to the throneHiere. 5. of hys grace, that thou mayst obtaine mercy and fynde grace in tyme of nede. I haue founde, out tribula­tion and sorowe, and I wyll call vpon the name of the lorde

The mercy of thy promyse is greate and vnsercheable, for thou arte the hyghest lord god ouer all the erth, longe suffringApo / 5 / and passinge mercyfull; and sory for the malice of men.

Thou art worthy lorde for to opē the boke and to lose the seales, of it, for thou wast slai­ne and hast redemed vs (o god)Bar 2 in thy blode.

IN the begynninge the worde was, and The worde was wyth god, & god was the worde The same was in the begynnyng wyth god, [...]l thin­ges were made by it, and with out it was nothige made that made is, in it was life, and life was the lyght of men.

He came into hys owne, and his receyued him not. Vnto as many as recyued him. he gaue power to be the sōnes of god, [Page] to suce as beleued in his n [...]

Be it knowen therfore vnto you ye men and brethren, that [Page] by hym remission of synnes is preached vnto you, & by hym are all that beleue iustified frō thynges wherby ye coude not be iustified in Moyses lawe.

Prayse ye oure lorde God, whych hath not forsaken such as truste in hym.

Gyue prayse, o heauens, for the Lorde hath shewed mercy, the farthest partes of the earth make ye melodie,

O blesse thou (my loule) the lorde, and al that is wythin me blesse hys holy name,

For he hathe establisshe hys mercy vpō suche as feare hy [...] occordynge vnto the heyghe of heuen from the earth.

Lyke as a fathers harte yer­neth on his chyldrē, so the lord hathe mercy vpon them that feare hī, for he knoweth what frayle mettal, we are made of, he rememred that we are as dust, and that man is as haye.

All fleshe is haye and all the glorye of it lyke a flowre of theEsa. 40 felde, the haye wethereth, and the flowre is faded, for the spi­rite of the lorde hathe blowen on it. Verely the people is haye [Page] the heye is wethered, and the flowre is faded, but the worde of the Lorde abydeth for euer­more,

Euery word of god is fury it is a shelde, for thē that truste in hym.

The ryche haue neded, and haue ben hūgry, but they that seke the lorde shall not fayle ofpsal. 33. Hebr. 3. 2. Pa. 30. any good thynge.

The lord is good to al that truste in hym, Vnto the soule that wyll seke hym,

The good lorde wyl be mer­cyfull Vnto all That seke oute wyth all theyr hartes the lorde God of theyr fathers nor He wyll not laye to thē any synne3, pa. 13. [...] because they be lesse sanctified

In the crosse and trouble we muste flee vnto god.

And whan they wyll reuerte in theyr trouble, and wyll crye Vnto the lorde god of Israell.Eccl. 34. and wyll seke hym they shall fynde him.

Beholde the eyes of the are vpon all that feare [Page] and vpon suche as trust in his mercy.

Taste and se how the lorde is swete, blessed is the mā that c [...]usteth in hym.

Trust in god, & worke goodnes, and inhabite the earthe, &pfal. 33 Psal. 36. thou shalte fede in the ryches of it.

And thou shalt know how thy lorde god is god myghty and trew, kepynge couenaunt and mercy to al that loue him.

Thy lord is a god and con­forteth in tyme of trouble, andEsa. 40. wyl know al that trust in him

They that trust in the lord shall change in streng the, and shall haue fethers as Egles they shall runne & not laboure they shall go, and yet shall notPro. 16. psal, 146 faynte.

He that trusteth in the lorde is blessed.

For the lorde is well conten­ted [Page] with all that feare him [...] wyth them that truste in h [...] mercy.

Euyll shall not happen [...] him that feareth god, but [...] shall preserue him in temptacion, and delyuer him frō al en [...] Eccl. 33. psal. 113.

They that feare the Lorde, haue trusted in the lorde, he is theyr helper and their defend [...]

The scourges of a sinner ar many folde, he that trusteth in the Lorde shall be compassed with mercy,

Blessed be all that trust in him That man is cursed that tru­steth in, man / and maketh flesh his defence, whose hart swar­ueth from the lorde.Eccl. 31, psal. 11 7.

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the lorde, for the Lorde shalbe his confydence.

He that trusteth in hym shall not be made worse,

It is better to truste in the lorde, then to trust in man.pro. 29,

It is better to truste in the lorde then to truste in princes.

He that feare the man shall sone fal, he that trusteth in the [Page] lorde shall be holpen.

They that truste in the lo [...] Psal 124 1 para. 29 are as the hyll of Syon which shall neuer be moued.

Beleue in your lorde god and ye shall besure / beleue his pro­phetes, [Page] and all thynges shall come to passe happely.

The ryghtouse shal liue by his fayth.

Abraham beleued god and it was counted vnto hym for ryghtuonsnesHab. 2. Rom, 4.

It is not wrytten for hym onely that it was rekened to hī for ryzhteousnes, but also for vs, to whom it shalbe coū ­ted for ryghtuousnes, so that we beleue on hym that raysed vp Iesu Chryst our lord feom deathe which was delyuered for our synnes, and dyd ryse agayne for to iustifye vs.

Seynge therfore that we be iustifyed by faythe, we haue peace with god thorowe oure lorde Iesu. Chryste, by whiche [Page] we haue a waye in, through fayth vnto this fauour wh [...] in we stāde and reioice in do [...] of the prayse that shall be [...] ­uen to the sonnes of god

Chryst is the ende of the laweRom. io. to iustifyf all that beleue.

Our god is the god of sal­uacion.

Verely he is mercifull & wyll forgyue theyr synnes, and will not destroy them.psal / 24. Eccl. 36

Al the workes of the lorde [Page] are very good,

For like vnto his greatnesEccl. 2 Eccl. 18 so is his mercy in him.

The pitie of a man is but em­ployed vnto his neyghboure but the pitie of god is vnto euery creature.

The mercy of god is beautefulEccl. 35. 2 Cor. 1 in tyme of trybulacion. lyke as a showre of rayne in tyme of drought.

Wherfore in all thynges it be came hym to be made lyke vn­to his brethren that he myght be a mercyfull and a faythfullEccle. 17. bysshop in thynges cōcerning god, for to forgyue the synnes of the people.

Howe great is the mercy of the lord, and his pardon, to al that tourne to hym.

Tourne ye vnto your lordeIole, 2, Rr. 10 god for he is kynde, mercyful, paciēt and of great pytye, and forgetfull of malyci.

Whiche onely hath preserued you from al your harmes and [Page] troubles.

Approche ye vnto hym, be illumined, and youre f [...] shall not be ashamed.

For he is able to saue euer­lastyngly,Hebre, 7. all that approch vnto god through hym and is e­uermore lyuynge and makyng intercession for vs.

For he entendeth nothyng but mercy, he wyll reuert and wyll haue mercy on vs, & wyllMic. 7. put away our wickydnes, and wyl cast our synnes downe in to the depenesse of the see.

The lord god wyll cast downe deth for euer, and wyll take awaye the teares from euerye face, and the shame of his peopleEsa. 25. out of all the world for the lord hath spokē and they shal say at that tyme. Behold thys is our god. we wyll loke after hym, and he wyll saue vs, we [Page] haue abyden him, and we be glad and reioyse in the [...] uacyon of hym.

The lorde hym selfe shall g [...] a sygne vnto you, behold a gyn shall conceiue and bea [...] Esa 7 sonne, whose name shalbe manuell,

For he was woūded for [...] wyckednes, he was afflych [...] for our offences, on him rest [...] the dyscyplyne of oure pea [...] [Page] and we are made hole by hys grefe al we wandered as shepe euery one wēt out of his way and the lorde layed vpon hym thy wickednes of vs al

And the lorde ia made a suc­courepsal, 9. psal. 32. to the poore, a defender, alwayes readye in the tyme of tribulacion.

The lorde is at hande to al that be troubled in theyr har­tes, and he wyll saue the meke in spirite. The troubles of thepsal. 45. ryghtuous [...]re manifolde, and from al these, the lorde wyll delyuer them,

God is our socour & strēgth a defender in our tribulations whiche I haue fonnde ouer muche.psal 71.

For we wyll delyuer the pore from the myghty / and the pore that hath no helper,

He wyl spare the poore, and the nedy, and wyll saue the soules [Page] of the poore

They shall be hys people he theyr god, & god shall awaye euery teare from eyes, and death shall no [...] ny more, nor mournyng [...] cryeng, nor sorowe, afterApo. 21. the fyrste be passed.

If god be on our parte, can preuayle agaynst vs, che hath not spared his o [...] sonne, but hath delyuered for vs all, how then hat [...] he gyuen vnto vs all thy [...] Rom. 8 with him.

Who shal therfore d [...] vs frō the loue of Christ, trouble or misery, or hun [...] or necessitie, or peryll, or p [...] ­c [...]syon, or the swerde.

For I am sure that nei [...] death nor lyfe, nor angels rule, nor power, nor thy [...] presēt, nor thinges to co [...] strēgth, nor height, nor de [...] [Page] nor any creature, shall be able to departe vs from the chari­tie of god, whiche is in Christ Iesu our lorde.

Se what mauer of loue theIoh. 3 Rom, 8 father hathe shewed vnto vs, for to be named the sonnes of god, and so to be in dede.

For the spirite of god doth beare wytnes vnto our spirite that we be the sonnes of god, yf we be sonnes, then be we heyres of God, & cohers wyth Iesu Christ, so that we do suffre with hym, for to be glorifi­ed wyth him.

For the spirite him selfe praeth for vs with syghes vnableGala. 4 to be tolde.

God send downe the spirite of his sonne in to oure hartes tryeng Abba father. Therfore nowe art thou not bonde but a sonne, and if thou ve a sonne then art thou an heyre through [Page] god,

Thys is the confidence th [...] Iohn. 5 we haue in god, that what­euer we desyre accordinge v [...] to hys wyll, he hereth vs.

For ye do know the grace [...] our lorde Iesu Christe, ho [...] [...] Cor, 6 that for youre sake he wa [...] made poore whā he was rych, to the entente that by hys po­uertie you might beryche.

For in hym resteth corporalRom. 6 ly all the god heed full and hole Therby apperethe the loue of god vnto vs, for god sent hisColo, 2 1, Iohn 4. onely begotten sonne in to the worlde that we myghte lyue through hym, therin was cha­rite, not because we loued god but for asmoch as he loued vs fyrste, and sent downe his son to forgyue ouer synnes moste derely beloued, yf god hath lo­ued vs, then are we boundenRom. 8. one to loue another.

AFter that the people per­ceyued the hoste cōming­toi mach. 4. mete them, they sayde vnto Iudas, Howe shall we beynge so fewe, and also weryed thys daye with fastynge, fyghte a­gaynst so great and stronge a­multitude, to whome Iudas▪ answered and said, It is sone done, to conclude many in the power of few, and there is no diuersite in the sight of godin heuē to delyuer with many, or els with fewe, for why the vic­tory in warre doth not stande in the multitude of the hoost, but all the fortitude and pow­er therof commeth from heuē.
