OVr grieuous losse, we presume, hath sufficiently beene witne [...]ed by too true re­port, which imboldneth vs to seeke to you, as feeling memb [...]rs, for reliefe. The Kings mercy in granting Letters Patents, hath beene so many wayes abused, that in the generall (we know) it hath much dulled the edge of mens liberality, espe­cially to places remote: Might wee haue beene permitted therefore, our Let­ters onely should haue made relation of our lamentable condition, and petitioned your sup­plyes; but seeing the roade way is the safest and most vsuall in these euill euents, wee make bold to send both together. A fearefull fire of late furiously raging amongst vs, hath consumed so much, that, vnlesse to spectators, it may seeme incredible: but if our honest credits may be a sufficient testimony, wee assure you, all the particulars in his Highnesse Letters Patents men­tioned, and in the Briefes thereof, are true; and the losses (though therein rated at Twentie thousand pounds) are rather farrevnder, than one whit ouer-valued. The number of our poore was great before, but is now increased, and the substance of those that did relieue them, by this accident is much deminished. We doubt not therefore, but in this extremity you will extend your charity, promising our Prayers, to intreat him that can giue and take at his pleasure, to blesse you with such continuall safety and prosperity, that you may be alwayes so happy, as to giue, rather then receiue. And thus presenting the sighes, groanes, and teares of all these mi­serable afflicted Christians, (now left harbourlesse and succourlesse) to your charitable conside­rations. Wee humbly take leaue, with such respects as euery of your places and qualities re­quire. Resting,
