            <p>The EEBO-TCP project was divided into two phases. The 25,363 texts created during Phase 1 of the project have been released into the public domain as of 1 January 2015. Anyone can now take and use these texts for their own purposes, but we respectfully request that due credit and attribution is given to their original source.</p>
            <p>Users should be aware of the process of creating the TCP texts, and therefore of any assumptions that can be made about the data.</p>
            <p>Text selection was based on the New Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature (NCBEL). If an author (or for an anonymous work, the title) appears in NCBEL, then their works are eligible for inclusion. Selection was intended to range over a wide variety of subject areas, to reflect the true nature of the print record of the period. In general, first editions of a works in English were prioritized, although there are a number of works in other languages, notably Latin and Welsh, included and sometimes a second or later edition of a work was chosen if there was a compelling reason to do so.</p>
            <p>Image sets were sent to external keying companies for transcription and basic encoding. Quality assurance was then carried out by editorial teams in Oxford and Michigan. 5% (or 5 pages, whichever is the greater) of each text was proofread for accuracy and those which did not meet QA standards were returned to the keyers to be redone. After proofreading, the encoding was enhanced and/or corrected and characters marked as illegible were corrected where possible up to a limit of 100 instances per text. Any remaining illegibles were encoded as &lt;gap&gt;s. Understanding these processes should make clear that, while the overall quality of TCP data is very good, some errors will remain and some readable characters will be marked as illegible. Users should bear in mind that in all likelihood such instances will never have been looked at by a TCP editor.</p>
            <p>The texts were encoded and linked to page images in accordance with level 4 of the TEI in Libraries guidelines.</p>
            <p>Copies of the texts have been issued variously as SGML (TCP schema; ASCII text with mnemonic sdata character entities); displayable XML (TCP schema; characters represented either as UTF-8 Unicode or text strings within braces); or lossless XML (TEI P5, characters represented either as UTF-8 Unicode or TEI g elements).</p>

Whether theire Churche or Chappell be ſerued with any readers. Whether they bee peacemakers, and exhorte the people to obedie<g ref="char:cmbAbbrStroke">̄</g>ce to their Prince, &amp; to all other that be in authoritie, to charity and mutual loue among themſelues.             <p>Item, whether anye of your benefices be vacant,<milestone type="tcpmilestone" unit="unspecified" n="12"/> how longe they haue ben vacant: who is Patrone. Whether there be any laye or temporall men, (not beinge within orders) or children, or anye other (within age) that hathe or enioyeth ani benefice or ſpiritual promotion: any Patron that ſuffereth any benefice to be vacante, and taketh the tithes and o<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ther fructes to himſelfe.</p>
            <p>Item, whether your Miniſters keepe their regiſ<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ters <milestone type="tcpmilestone" unit="unspecified" n="13"/> well, and do preſent the copy of them once eue<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ry yeare by Indenture, to the Ordinary or his offi<g ref="char:EOLunhyphen"/>cers. And teache the Articles of the fayth, and the Tenne commaundementes, and the Lordes pray<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>er. as is preſcribed them in the Catechiſme.</p>
            <p>Item, whether youre Parſons and Vicars haue <milestone type="tcpmilestone" unit="unspecified" n="14"/> any other or mo benefices, where &amp; in what Coun<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>try they bee: Whether they came by them by Sy<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>mony, or other vnlawful meanes. Whether they do let their benefice to farme, or els kepe them in their owne handes. Whether they keepe hoſpitalitye or not. Whether in their abſe<g ref="char:cmbAbbrStroke">̄</g>ce they leaue their cures to honeſt, learned, or expert Curates. Yf anye be negligente or wilfull. Whether the forfaiture be leued on their goods to the vſe of the poore, according to the lawes of this Realm in y<hi rend="sup">e</hi> behalfe prouided. Any ſuſpected of hereſy, or that maintain any erronious opinions co<g ref="char:cmbAbbrStroke">̄</g>trary to the lawes of al<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>mighty God and good religion, by publique autho<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ritie in this Realme ſet forth.</p>
            <p>Item, whether there be in theſe parties which mi<g ref="char:EOLunhyphen"/>niſter <milestone type="tcpmilestone" unit="unspecified" n="16"/> the goodes of thoſe whiche be deade, without authoritie: any executors y<hi rend="sup">t</hi> haue not fulfilled their te<g ref="char:EOLunhyphen"/>ſtators will, ſpecially in paying of legacies geuen to good and godly vſes, as to the releife of pouerte, to poore ſchollers, orphanes, highe waies, mariage of poore maidens, and ſuche like. Whether ther be any other placed in the<g ref="char:cmbAbbrStroke">̄</g> then poore impotent &amp; needy perſons, that hath not other wiſe where with or whereby to liue.</p>

Whether youre Churche war<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>dens &amp; others, afore tyme, haue gyuen the yearely accompte, accordinge vnto the cuſtome as it hath been aforetime vſed. Whether the ſtore of the poore mennes boxe be openlie and indifferentlie giuen where neede is, without parciall affection. Whether any ſtocke of cattel or graine appertaining to your churches, be decaied: by whoſe negligence, and in whoſe haddes.</p>
