Anyone can now take and use these texts for their own purposes, but we respectfully request that due credit and attribution is given to their original source.</p>
            <p>Users should be aware of the process of creating the TCP texts, and therefore of any assumptions that can be made about the data.</p>
            <p>Text selection was based on the New Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature (NCBEL). If an author (or for an anonymous work, the title) appears in NCBEL, then their works are eligible for inclusion. Selection was intended to range over a wide variety of subject areas, to reflect the true nature of the print record of the period. In general, first editions of a works in English were prioritized, although there are a number of works in other languages, notably Latin and Welsh, included and sometimes a second or later edition of a work was chosen if there was a compelling reason to do so.</p>
            <p>Image sets were sent to external keying companies for transcription and basic encoding. Quality assurance was then carried out by editorial teams in Oxford and Michigan. 5% (or 5 pages, whichever is the greater) of each text was proofread for accuracy and those which did not meet QA standards were returned to the keyers to be redone. After proofreading, the encoding was enhanced and/or corrected and characters marked as illegible were corrected where possible up to a limit of 100 instances per text. Any remaining illegibles were encoded as &lt;gap&gt;s. Understanding these processes should make clear that, while the overall quality of TCP data is very good, some errors will remain and some readable characters will be marked as illegible. Users should bear in mind that in all likelihood such instances will never have been looked at by a TCP editor.</p>
            <p>The texts were encoded and linked to page images in accordance with level 4 of the TEI in Libraries guidelines.</p>
            <p>Copies of the texts have been issued variously as SGML (TCP schema; ASCII text with mnemonic sdata character entities); displayable XML (TCP schema; characters represented either as UTF-8 Unicode or text strings within braces); or lossless XML (TEI P5, characters represented either as UTF-8 Unicode or TEI g elements).</p>

And did he within two moneths after his induction, publick<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ly in the Church upon ſome Sunday or Holiday, in the time of Divine Service, read the 39 Articles of the Church of <hi>England,</hi> eſtabliſhed by Authority, and there publickly declare his aſſent thereunto?</item>
               <item>3 Is he reſident among you? how many weeks hath he been abſent from you without urgent neceſſity?</item>
               <item>4 Hath your Miniſter a Curate? Is he in Holy Orders,<note place="margin">
                     <hi>Can.</hi> 47.</note> and confor<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>mable to the Laws of the Church? Is he allowed by the Ordinary?</item>
               <item>5 Doth your Parſon, Vicar, Curate, or Lecturer, if you have any, perform his Office in all things according to the Rubrick of the Book of Common-Prayer lately eſtabliſhed, and the Act of Uniformity publiſhed therewith?<note place="margin">14</note> without either diminiſhing in re<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>gard of Preaching or in any other reſpect, or adding any thing in the Matter or Form.</item>
               <item>6 Doth your Miniſter at the Reading Divine Service,<note place="margin">58</note> wear a Surplice and Hood?</item>
               <item>7 Doth he obſerve the Holidays and Faſting-days, the Em<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ber-weeks, and the yearly Preambulation of Rogation-week, as is appointed by the Rubrick.</item>
               <item>8 Is your Miniſter licenſed to Preach? if ſo,<note place="margin">45, 46, 47.</note> doth he conſtantly (not having a reaſonable impediment) Preach one ſermon in your Church or Chappel every Sunday? or if he be not licenſed, or be hindred, doth he procure one to ſupply his Office by preaching or Reading one of the Homilies</item>
               <item>9 Doth your Miniſter inſtruct the youth in your Pariſh in the Church Catechiſm,<note place="margin">
                     <hi>Can.</hi> 59.</note> and prepare and preſent them to be confirmed by the Biſhop?<note place="margin">Rubr. be<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>fore Con<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>firm.</note>

               <item>10 Doth he neglect or delay to viſit the Sick,<note place="margin">67</note> or to Baptize any Infant that is in danger of death?<note place="margin">69</note> Doth he baptize any without Godfathers and Godmothers, or admit either of the Parents to be Godfather or Godmother to their own Children?</item>

Name who were the parties ſo married, and who were preſent at ſuch marriages, and what Miniſter married them as far as you know or have head.</item>
               <item>12 Hath your Miniſter taken upon him to appoint any publick or private Faſts,<note place="margin">72</note> Propheſyings or Exerciſes not appointed by Au<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>thority? Or doth he, or any other,<note place="margin">73</note> either Miniſter or Lay-perſon hold any Conventicles or Meetings in private houſes within your Pariſh, for people of ſeveral Families to reſort unto, under the pre<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>tence of Preaching, Praying, Thankſgiving or Humiliation, con<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>trary to the Laws and Canons in that caſe provided?</item>
               <item>13 Is your Parſon, Vicar, Curate or Lecturer, a man of a ſober life and converſation? or is his carriage in any kinde diſorderly or ſcandalous, and unbeſeeming a Miniſter?</item>
               <item>14 Hath the Sacrament of the Lords Supper been duly Admi<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>niſtred in your Church or Chappel ſo often, and at ſuch conveni<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ent times, that at leaſt thrice every year, (whereof once at <hi>Ea<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ſter</hi>) every Pariſhioner within your Pariſh, being of the age of ſix<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>teen years or upwards, might receive the ſame?</item>
               <item>15 Hath any Childe been Baptized within your Pariſh in any private Houſe, (except upon great neceſſity; and if ſo what was the ſame?<note place="margin">3. <hi>Jac.</hi> 5.</note>) or by any Lay-Perſon, or Midwife, or Popiſh Prieſt, or by any other then your own Miniſter? and hath ſuch Childe which was privately baptized,<note place="margin">Rubr. of private Bapt.</note> if he lived, been afterwards brought to your Church, that the Congregation and the Miniſter of the Pariſh (in caſe ſuch Childe was not Baptized by him) might be certified whether ſuch Childe was lawfully Baptized, or no?</item>
               <item>16 Doth your Miniſter publickly in your Pariſh Church or Chappel,<note place="margin">Ratif. Can.</note> once every year, read over the Conſtitutions and Ca<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>nons Eccleſiaſtical, agreed upon by the Clergy of both Provinces <hi>An. Dom.</hi> 1603. in ſuch manner as is commanded to be done?</item>
               <item>17 Doth your Miniſter every ſix moneths in your Pariſh

               <item>18 Hath your Miniſter ſaid Divine Service while any Excom<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>municate perſon hath been preſent in the Church? or hath he de<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>layed to denounce any Excommunication, Suſpenſion, or Abſolu<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>tion that hath been ſent unto him from his Ordinary, further then the next Sunday or Holiday after the receipt thereof under Seal?</item>

                     <hi>C.</hi> 50.52.</note> who did not before the Church-wardens ſubſcribe his name in your Book provided for that purpoſe, and the day when he Preached, and the name of the Biſhop or Biſhops of whom he had licence to Preach?</item>

               <head>TIT. IV. <hi>Concerning the Pariſhioners.</hi>
               </head>
               <item>1 IS there any in your Pariſh that make profeſſion of any other Religion, then what is eſtabliſhed in the Church of <hi>England?</hi> And that refuſe to come to the publick Aſſemblies, Prayers,<note place="margin">Act for U<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>niformity <hi>1 Q.</hi> Eliz.</note> or Service of the Church? If there be any what are their names?</item>
               <item>2 Is there any perſon in your Pariſh,<note place="margin">
                     <hi>C.</hi> 109.</note> that lieth under a com<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>mon fame, or ſuſpicion of Adultery, Fornication, or Inceſt? Are there any common Drunkards within your Pariſh, or common Swearers, or Blaſphemers of Gods name, or any that are noted to be Railers, unclean or filthy Talkers, or ſowers of Sedition, Facti<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>on, and Diſcord amongſt their Neighbours?</item>
               <item>3 Do any of your Pariſh upon Sundays or Holidays follow their bodily and ordinary labour, or permit their ſervants ſo to do? Are any Shops kept open, or wares ſold? or do any Vintners, Inn<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>keepers, or other Victuallers or ſellers of Beer or Ale, ſuffer any perſons to tipple or game in their houſes upon thoſe days?</item>

4 Doth every perſon in your Pariſh duly reſort to your Church or Chappel upon Sundays and Holidays,<note place="margin">
                     <hi>Can.</hi> 13.</note> and as well during Divine Service,<note place="margin">18</note> as preaching the Word of God, demean themſelves re<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>verently, uncovering their heads,<note place="margin">Rubr.</note> kneeling at Prayers, ſtanding up when the Creed and Goſpel are read?</item>
               <item>5 Is there any in your Pariſh that refuſe to ſend their Infant<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>children to be Baptized in the Church,<note place="margin">Rubr. of Bapt.</note> unleſs in caſe of urgent dan<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ger? or do they ſend them to be Baptized in other Pariſhes? or are they Baptized after other Form then is appointed? or are they kept unbaptized longer then is allowed? or is there any Infants, or more aged perſons as yet unbaptized?</item>
               <item>6 Is there any perſon in your Pariſh of 16 years of age who doth not receive the Sacrament three times in the year, of which <hi>Eaſter</hi> is always to be one?<note place="margin">112</note> Doth any refuſe to receive it kneeling, or re<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ſort to other Pariſhes?<note place="margin">Rubr. after Commun. <hi>27,28.</hi>

               <item>2 Have the former and laſt Church-wardens given up their Accounts to the Pariſh, and delivered up to the ſucceeding Churchwardens the moneys remaining in their hands, together with all other things belonging to your Church or Chappel?</item>
               <item>3 You are further to underſtand, That according to your Office, you are to provide againſt every Communion appointed in your Church or Chappel,<note place="margin">Rubr. at Commun.</note> a ſufficient quantity of fine white Bread, and of good Wine, according to the number of Communicants.</item>
               <item>YOu alſo are to exhibit a Bill of Preſentments to this Court, of all Eccleſiaſtical offences committed by any that now is, or of late was inhabiting within your Pariſh; eſpecially concerning the mat<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ters mentioned in the precedent Articles, and therein to take the aſ<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ſiſtance of your Miniſter.</item>
