            <p>Users should be aware of the process of creating the TCP texts, and therefore of any assumptions that can be made about the data.</p>
            <p>Text selection was based on the New Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature (NCBEL). If an author (or for an anonymous work, the title) appears in NCBEL, then their works are eligible for inclusion. Selection was intended to range over a wide variety of subject areas, to reflect the true nature of the print record of the period. In general, first editions of a works in English were prioritized, although there are a number of works in other languages, notably Latin and Welsh, included and sometimes a second or later edition of a work was chosen if there was a compelling reason to do so.</p>
            <p>Image sets were sent to external keying companies for transcription and basic encoding. Quality assurance was then carried out by editorial teams in Oxford and Michigan. 5% (or 5 pages, whichever is the greater) of each text was proofread for accuracy and those which did not meet QA standards were returned to the keyers to be redone. After proofreading, the encoding was enhanced and/or corrected and characters marked as illegible were corrected where possible up to a limit of 100 instances per text. Any remaining illegibles were encoded as &lt;gap&gt;s. Understanding these processes should make clear that, while the overall quality of TCP data is very good, some errors will remain and some readable characters will be marked as illegible. Users should bear in mind that in all likelihood such instances will never have been looked at by a TCP editor.</p>
            <p>The texts were encoded and linked to page images in accordance with level 4 of the TEI in Libraries guidelines.</p>
            <p>Copies of the texts have been issued variously as SGML (TCP schema; ASCII text with mnemonic sdata character entities); displayable XML (TCP schema; characters represented either as UTF-8 Unicode or text strings within braces); or lossless XML (TEI P5, characters represented either as UTF-8 Unicode or TEI g elements).</p>

Brereton,</hi> Sir <hi>Thomas Middleton,</hi> Sir <hi>William Fairfax,</hi> Col. <hi>Aſhton,</hi> Col. <hi>Moore,</hi> Col. <hi>Mitton,</hi> and hundreds more ſtand indicted of high Treaſon, for taking up Arms, and adhe<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ring to the Parliament in this warre, together with the Indictments: here is a Liſt of the Jury that found theſe Indictments, there is about 18 of this Jury, that would never (that it can be remembred) appear upon any grand Jury before this which is very remarkable, many of them now are compounding for their Eſtates, And it doth ap<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>peare that divers doe compound without a Certificate hence of the nature of their delinquency, &amp;c. Mr. <hi>Brere<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ton</hi> of <hi>Aſhley</hi> who was one of this Jury, hath compounded already, and his delinquency uncertified or tequired: Here is a Copy of the Letter ſent by the Committee here to the Committee for Compoſitions; by which you may be ſatisfied of the proceedings, when the Committee at Goldſmiths Hall are thus informed herein they know beſt what uſe to make hereof for the Common-wealth<hi>:</hi> Here is alſo a particular Indictment againſt Col. <hi>Moore,</hi> and the Exigent whereupon he was returned out-laawed,—Mr. <hi>Iohn Wilſon</hi> gave judgment thereupon, who is now com<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>pounding for his eſtate.             <p>AMongſt ſuch Delinquents as we the Committee for Sequeſtrations for the City of Cheſter, in order to our proceedings finde moſt notorious in this County: We cannot omit with reſpect to ſeverall heads in the Natio<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>nal Covenant by us taken, and our duty to the Parlia<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ment, to publiſh and make known unto you the nature and quality of the offences of certain Gentlemen tran<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ſcendent in the eyes and judgment of the Body of this County far above others, though in hoſtility againſt the Parliament.</p>

Brereton, Sir T. Middleton, Col. Moor, the preſent high Sheriffe of Cheſter, and the reſt of the Deputy Lieutenants of this County that ſtood for the Parliament, The Committees for the county, &amp; for Seque<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ſtrations, and hundreds more of the well affected and
