            <p>EEBO-TCP aimed to produce large quantities of textual data within the usual project restraints of time and funding, and therefore chose to create diplomatic transcriptions (as opposed to critical editions) with light-touch, mainly structural encoding based on the Text Encoding Initiative (http://www.tei-c.org).</p>
            <p>The EEBO-TCP project was divided into two phases. The 25,363 texts created during Phase 1 of the project have been released into the public domain as of 1 January 2015. Anyone can now take and use these texts for their own purposes, but we respectfully request that due credit and attribution is given to their original source.</p>
            <p>Users should be aware of the process of creating the TCP texts, and therefore of any assumptions that can be made about the data.</p>
            <p>Text selection was based on the New Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature (NCBEL). If an author (or for an anonymous work, the title) appears in NCBEL, then their works are eligible for inclusion. Selection was intended to range over a wide variety of subject areas, to reflect the true nature of the print record of the period. In general, first editions of a works in English were prioritized, although there are a number of works in other languages, notably Latin and Welsh, included and sometimes a second or later edition of a work was chosen if there was a compelling reason to do so.</p>
            <p>Image sets were sent to external keying companies for transcription and basic encoding. Quality assurance was then carried out by editorial teams in Oxford and Michigan. 5% (or 5 pages, whichever is the greater) of each text was proofread for accuracy and those which did not meet QA standards were returned to the keyers to be redone. After proofreading, the encoding was enhanced and/or corrected and characters marked as illegible were corrected where possible up to a limit of 100 instances per text. Any remaining illegibles were encoded as &lt;gap&gt;s. Understanding these processes should make clear that, while the overall quality of TCP data is very good, some errors will remain and some readable characters will be marked as illegible. Users should bear in mind that in all likelihood such instances will never have been looked at by a TCP editor.</p>
            <p>The texts were encoded and linked to page images in accordance with level 4 of the TEI in Libraries guidelines.</p>
            <p>Copies of the texts have been issued variously as SGML (TCP schema; ASCII text with mnemonic sdata character entities); displayable XML (TCP schema; characters represented either as UTF-8 Unicode or text strings within braces); or lossless XML (TEI P5, characters represented either as UTF-8 Unicode or TEI g elements).</p>

            <p>THE Inhabitants of the <hi>Highlands</hi> of <hi>Scotland,</hi> have never had the Bible in their own Language, which is the <hi>Iriſh:</hi> Some endeavours have formerly been uſed in <hi>Scotland,</hi> to have it Printed in that Language, but hitherto they have proved unſucceſsful.</p>
            <p>Of late, the Honourable, Learned, and Pious Mr. <hi>Boyle</hi> hath, at great charge, cauſed to be Printed 500 Bibles in <hi>Iriſh,</hi> which were deſigned for <hi>Ireland,</hi> and accordingly moſt part of them, eſpecially the New-Teſtaments, were by him ſent thither: Of the Books of the Old Teſta<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ment which remained, he ſent above 200 into the <hi>Highlands,</hi> which made one Book for each Pariſh, there being ſo many Pariſhes in the <hi>Highlands,</hi> and thoſe of very large extent, containing great Numbers of People.</p>
            <p>The ſame Excellent and Worthy Perſon, was at the Charge of Printing for the uſe of the <hi>Highlanders,</hi> 3000 Catechiſms and Prayer-Books in <hi>Iriſh,</hi> with ſome Paſſages of Scripture, containing the prin<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>cipal Heads of the Chriſtian Religion, they never having had any ſuch helps before. He hath alſo lately given money to reprint as many more.</p>
            <p>All ſorts of People among them expreſs an extraordinary joy upon occaſion of this great and unexpected Charity to their Souls, and do earneſtly deſire to have another Impreſſion of the Bible in <hi>Iriſh</hi> for themſelves, and for their Children, that by Reading, and Hearing of that Sacred Book, they may be delivered from Ignorance and Barbarity.</p>
            <p>The Money collected for carrying on the Work, is to be depoſited with the Reverend Dr <hi>Horneck,</hi> who hath been pleaſed Charitably to accept of the trouble of receiving it.</p>
            <p>Several worthy Perſons both of <hi>England</hi> and <hi>Scotland,</hi> have promi<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ſed their Concurrence, and ſignified the Proportions they intend to give, of whom alſo not a few have already ſent their Money to Dr. <hi>Horneck,</hi> at his Houſe in <hi>Exeter-ſtreet,</hi> who hath a Liſt of their Names, with the Sums of Money they have Subſcribed or ſent.</p>
            <p>The Perſon imployed for the Printing of this Bible, is <hi>Robert Eve<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>ringham,</hi> at the <hi>Seven Stars</hi> in <hi>Ave mary-Lane,</hi> nigh <hi>Pater-noſter Row.</hi>
            </p>
            <p>There is a Miniſter to come ſhortly from the <hi>Highlands,</hi> to attend the Preſs; who likewiſe, by the Advice and with the Concur<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>rence of other Diſcreet and Pious perſons, both of the Laity and Cler<g ref="char:EOLhyphen"/>gy in <hi>Scotland,</hi> is to diſtribute among the poorer ſort of <hi>Highlanders,</hi> thoſe Books which are ſubſcribed for by ſome Charitable Perſons of this Kingdom.</p>
            <p>As for the Books which are Subſcribed for by thoſe of <hi>Scotland,</hi> they are likewiſe to be beſtowed on poor People, ſo far as is needful; and as for the Money which ſhall be got from thoſe <hi>Highlanders,</hi> who are able to buy Books for themſelves, it is to be kept in ſtore as a Fund for another Impreſſion of the Bible in <hi>Iriſh,</hi> or for Printing ſome ſuch uſeful Treatiſe in that Language, as ſhall afterwards be thought moſt proper.</p>
