FORMULAE ADORANDI: OR, A Religious and Devout Poem, containing certain plain Directions, and affectionate Perswasions, to the Clergy and Laiety of England, for their frequent Address unto, and right Behaviour in the House of the Lord, at His Worship and Service; Agreeable to the Word of God, the Laws and Customs of Holy Church.

O Holy Ghost, Guide rightly to indite
My pensive Muse; and eke my Pen to write
What may advance God's Glory, and th' Salvation
Of my dear Countrey people in this Nation.
To the CLERGY.
I.
YE Ministers, Let not the People's sinning
From your Example take growth, or beginning.
At publick Worship, in each part and motion,
Observe your Rules; shew reverent Devotion.
II.
Offer to God the Daily Sacrifice
Each day in Church, or in your Chappel, twice;
If well at home you be: Do you not cease,
For Christ his sake, and for the Churche's peace.
To the LAIETY.
III.
SErve Reverently the Lord, His House frequent;
At Common Prayer there be you present
From first to last; do you continue still,
With diligence God's Service to fulfill.
IV.
Our Lord is a great God, will in no wise
Accept a partial, or lame Sacrifice:
So many spotless Lambs He did require
At Evening's Offering, as at Morn, by fire.
V.
As you expect God should you not despise,
Rob him not of his Evening Sacrifice;
Come to His House, which is Heaven's Gate, therefore
Both Evening and at Morn, and Him Adore.
VI.
As th' Holy place you enter and go out,
To worship tow'rds the Altar make no doubt.
East-ward, with th' Ancient Church, Adore let us;
Though Schismaticks forbid, with Elxaeus.
VII.
To reverence God's Sanctuary alway,
All men keep off your Hats while there you stay.
God's promise is to meet His people there,
To bless those that approve themselves sincere.
VIII.
Keep up your watch therefore, vain thoughts expell;
Each pious duty strive for to doe well.
With Soul and Body see you Glorify,
In His own House, the Divine Majesty.
IX.
You Parents hither bring your Infants in,
Which were conceiv'd, and also born in sin,
To th' Sacred Font, there to be born again
Of Water, and the Spirit;
Eph. 5.26, 27.
