This sommer the duke of Albanye was entryng Englāde with a great army, but when he herd that therle of Shrewsbury was cōmynge to fyght with him, he toke a truce for syxe monethes.

The same yere the duke of Albany besieged the Castel of Warke, & hearynge of the erle of Surryes commynge with a great armye, he cowardly fled.

Stephan Pecok, Nycolas lambert, shir. ¶In this yere the Cytye of Rome, by the viceroy of Naples, and the duke of Bur­bone, the same duke beynge fyrste kylled, was taken / and almost destroyed: and Clemens the .vii. than bysshop of Rome, and dyuers of the cardynals there found, wer taken and broughte in to captyuytye, and vnder the rule of Charles the emperour. ¶This yere corne began to fayle. And the cardynall went in to Fraunce with great pompe, there he cōcluded a leage bytwene the king & the frenche king, which both defyed themperour, & sēt one army into Ita­lye / & in septēbre he returned. And in octo­ber the greate master of Fraūce came in to London with greate tryumphe, for conlu­sion of the same leage.

¶This yere the kynge was by dew pro­ces of the law dyuorced from lady kathe­ryne his brothers wyfe and then he maryed lady An Bulleyn which was crowned quene on Whitsondaye. And on mydso­mer [Page] day dyed the frenche quene. And on y^e euen of the Natyuytye of our ladye, was borne the lady Elysabeth at Grenewyche.

¶Also in Apryll was the Nunne called y^e holy mayde of Kent, two monkes, & two freers hanged and heeded for treason, blasphemye, and Hypocrysye.

Nycolas Leuesō, Wylliam Denham shir. ¶This yere the erle of Kyldare dyed in y^e tower, and his son rebelled and slewe the bysshop of Dyuelyng, wherfore the kinge sēt syr William Skeuymon thither T. his yere was graunted to the kynge the fyrste frutes, & y^e tēthes of al spiritual possessiōs.

In Iune was the bysshop of Rochestre, & syr Tho. Moore beheded for denying the king to be supreme heed of y^e church of En­glande. And this yere were .iii. monkes of y^e charterhouse executed for y^e same offēce.

Anno. M.ccccc.xxxv. An. xxvii. H. viii. Iohn̄ Aleyn meccer knyghte, the .ii. tyme mayr. Hūfrey Mōmouth, Io. Cotes, shir. ¶This yere in Ianuarye dyed lady Ka­theryne prynces dowayer, & is buryed at Peterborow. This yere was quene Anne attaynted of treason & beheded, & the kyng maryed lady Iane Seymer. And in octo­ber begā a folysh comocyō ī Lyncolnshyre, and an other in yorke shyre by the meanes of the lorde Darcye, y^e lorde Husey, syr Ro­bart Constable, & Robart Aske / which on­ly by y^e kinges wysdō and his noble coūsel, were appeaced without bloodsheddynge.

Syr fraū ces Bygot, y^e lorde Darcy, syr Robart Con­stable & other begā a new cōspiracy, whi­che were attaynted, & put to deth in Iune. ¶In February was Thomas FitzGar­red & .v. of his vncles hanged, drawen, and quartred. And on s. Edwardes euen was borne at Hampton court prince Edward.

The .xxiiii. daye of October dyed quene Iane, and is buryed at wynsore.

And this yere all ydolatry was forbyddē, & dyuers ymages that had Ingynnes to make theyr eyen opē & shut, & many other false iuglinges destroyed, & all freers and monkes chaunged theyr garmentes.
