¶ A Proclamation for the setling and encrease of the manufacture of Pins in this Realme.

WHereas many differences haue long depended, and sundry complaints haue bene to Vs and Our Counsell made by the Company of Pinmakers of London, against the haberda­shers and traders in Pins there, for want of taking off that manufacture, heere made, from their hands. For the compo­sing of which differences, sundry orders haue beene heretofore conceiued by Our said Counsell in fauour of the said Pinma­kers, which neuerthelesse haue not yet giuen an end therunto. Wee therefore, desirous to end the same differences, and inten­ding the reliefe of the said Pinmakers, by the setling and in­crease of the said manufacture in Our owne Realme, where by so many of Our poore Subiects, their wiues and children may be imployed and maintai­ned by their labours, which We hold to be iust & equall. And finding no fitter way to effect the same, then by appointing to the said Company of Pinmakers, the first vent and sale of Pins, as well forraine as home made, but yet at such moderate rates & prises, as We haue prescribed them; Doe hereby declare Our royall will and commandement to be: That all Pins whatsoeuer, frō the fifth day of August next following, to be imported into this Our Realme from any the parts beyond the Seas, for the space of three yeeres next comming, shall be brought and landed within Our Port of London onely, and in none other Port or place whatsoeuer. And the same Pinnes, being there duely customed, shall be at vsuall rates vttered and sould by the Importers thereof, to the said Company of Pinners of London onely, and to none others: Who hauing bought such quantities of good and marchantable stuffe, as, together with their owne Pins here made, will serue to supplie the necessary vse of Our Realme, are first to seale, and then to vtter them againe to the Ha­berdashers and traders in that commodity, at such reasonable rates as we haue preseribed: whom wee doe heereby also expresly charge and commaund, from time to time, as nerde shall require, to buy and take the same off, and from the hands of the said Company of Pin­ners only, and from none other person or persons whatsoeuer: Vnder the paine of the for­feiture of all such Pinnes as shalbe Imported, bought or sould, contrary to the Tenor of this Our Royall Commandement.

Prouided, that all such Merchants, or others that now haue shipped any Pins beyond the Seas, for any other Port then the Port of London, shall within fourteene dayes after the date of this Our Proclamation, forbeare to import or vnlade them in any other Port or place, then in the said Port of London: nor shall vtter or sell them to any others, but to the said Pinners of London: Vnder the paine of the forfeiture thereof, to be seised and ta­ken as forfeited to Vs, Our Heires and Successors. Willing, and hereby straightly char­ging and Commanding all Maiors, Shiriffes, Bayliffes, Iustices of Peace, Customers, Comptrollers, Searchers, Waiters, Constables, Headburroughes, and other Our Offi­cers and Ministers, to be ayding and assisting to the due execution and accomplishment of this Our Royall will and Commandement, as they tender Our pleasure, and will an­swere the contrary at their perils.
