❧ By the King.
❧ A Proclamation for restrayning of the seruing of Fee-Deere.
IT is manifest by that which We receiue from all parts of Our Kingdome, That the great and extraordinary Frost and Snow, which happened in the end of this yeere, hath destroyed great numbers of Deere, both of Red and Fallow, in all Our Parkes, Forrests and Chaces; and it is to be doubted, that those which haue escaped the storme of the weather, are so weakned, and surfaited by the extremitie of the cold, as they will hardly hold out the next Winter; So as if there be not some course taken how they may bee restored againe, Our grounds wil be vtterly destroyed and consumed a long time: For remedie whereof, We haue thought fit to make stay of the seruing of all Fee Deere, and all Deere by Warrants, as well to Our Iustices of Oyer and Terminer of Our Forrests, both on this side and beynod Trent; and to all other Our Officers great and small, as Lieutenants, Rangers, Fosters, Verdurers and Keepers; that either by custome, by pretence of their Offices, or by any other Warrant whatsoeuer, doe claime to haue any Fee-Deere, either within the suruey of Our Exchequer, or of Our Duchie of Lancaster. And to the end that Our said Iustices of Oyer and Terminer, & all other Our Officers claiming right of Fee-Deere; and all Our Lieutenants, Rangers, Verdurers, Keepers, and all other Our Officers of any Our Forrests, Parkes, and Chaces, may the more speedily take knowledge of this Our pleasure, We haue thought good to make the same knowne to them by this Publique signification; whereby We doe straightly charge and command, aswell Our Iustices of Oyer and Terminer, beyond and by hither Trent, and all Officers and Ministers, aswell within the Suruey of Our Exchequer, as of Our Duchie of Lancaster of what degree soeuer, and all Rangers, Verdurers, Fosters or Keepers, in any our Parkes, Forrests and Chaces, that they doe forbeare to giue out their Warrants for any Deere, Red or Fallow, claimed by them as Fees incident to their Offices and places. And doe likewise will and command all Keepers and Vnderkeepers, to whom the seruing of such Warrants doe appertaine, either of Red Deere or Fallow, That they shall not serue this yeere any Fee-Deere to any of the Officers before mentioned, or to any other, demaunding Deere by what Warrant soeuer, except onely by Warrant vnder Our owne hand and Signet; as they will answere to Vs vpon perill of Our displeasure.
Giuen at Our Pallace of Westminster the xxij. day of April, in the thirteenth yeere of Our Raigne of England, France, and Ireland and of Scotland the 48.
God saue the King.
