THe Queenes most excellent Maiestie being giuen to vnderstand, that diuers, aswell Souldiours as Mariners employed in the late Portingall voyage, whereunto many Souldiours voluntarilie offered themselues, to her highnesse great contentment, and their owne commendation for their willingnesse to put themselues into that seruice, but yet haue since their returne in most vndutifull sort assembled themselues in disordered troupes, contrarie to the Lawes and Statutes of this Realme, & haue also presumed to repaire to her Maiesties Court, contrary to a former Proclamation made in respect of the infection of the parts and ships from whence they came: Doth therefore straightlie charge and command aswell Souldiours as Mariners, vpon paine of imprisonment and such further punishment as shalbe thought meete to be inflicted vpon such disordered & vndutiful subiects, [...]ebeare from henceforth to make any such disordered assemblies. And yet to the end the said parties employed in the said voyage, [...] receiue reasonable contentment after the examining what summes of money are due to so many of them as haue haue beene im [...]ed either by vertue of her Maiesties Commission, or by Letters from the Lords and others of her highnesse Priuie councell, it [...] beene alreadie ordered: First for the Mariners, that they should repaire vnto the officers of the Admeraltie, and there deliuer [...] them their names, the time, and by whome they were imprested, what they haue receiued, and what is due vnto them: for [...] it both was and is ment immediatly vpon the repaire of Sir Iohn Norris & Sir Francis Drake the late Generals, who best [...] what hath beene payed to them, and what is due to the said Mariners, that there should be some present order taken for their [...]nable satisfaction. And for the Souldiours, the same hauing beene publiquely notified vnto them by the Lord Maior of London by order from her Maiesties Councel, that they should repaire into those Counties where they were imprested, and other their milling places, and there to deliuer vnto the Iustices or any other officers by whome they were imprested, their names vnder [...] they haue serued, what summes of money they haue receiued by the way of imprest, and what is due vnto them for the time [...] their seruice, to the end the said Iustices might giue notice thereof vnto the Lieutenants of the said Counties where the said [...]ours were imprested, whereby a true certificate might be made to her Maiestie or her Councell from the said Lieutenants, [...]h of the numbers that haue beene imployed, & what was demanded as due vnto them, which course of proceeding, by order from [...] Lords and other of the Priuie councell, was publiquely notified to the said Souldiours by the said Lord Maior, for that her Maiesties princely and most gracious disposition, both was and is, that such, aswell Mariners as Souldious that were imprested [...] vertue of her highnesse Commission, or by vertue of Letters directed by the Lords and other of her Maiesties Priuie councell [...] the Lieutenants of the Shires, should receiue reasonable contentment.
And therefore her Highnes pleasure is, that aswell Marryners as Souldiours shall seeke satisfaction, for somuch as shalbe found [...] due vnto them, in such sort as is aboue specified, and in no other maner. And for others that did offer their seruice, and haue [...] as voluntary men in the sayd voyage, and were not imprested nor commaunded to serue in such sort as is aboue mentioned: [...]r Maiesty commaundeth them vpon payne of imprisonment and such further punishment as shalbe thought meete to bee in [...]ted vpon them, to repayre out of hande to the countreyes and places where they were last abyding, and there to imploy themelves in duetifull sort, according to their seuerall vocations and callings. And yet neuerthelesse, concerning such summes of money as a great number of the sayd Souldiours imprested by Commission, (though it be affirmed that diuerse haue beene ouerpayd) [...]tend to be due vnto them: yet there shall be due examination taken, what they haue receyued by imprests, victualles, clothing [...]d armes. And for such summes as shall be found due the imprested Souldiours, order sahlbe taken to pay them their due [...]t of the goods seased) in the Countreyes from whence their certificate shalbe sent.
Wherefore for the due execution of this present Proclamation, Her Maiestie straightly chargeth and commaundeth all Lieutenants, Deputie Lieutenants, Maiors, Sheriffes, and other inferior Officers, to giue present order for the placing of standing [...]hes, of sufficient and able men in such Thorowfaires and places, as by them shall be thought conuenient, for the intercepting [...]d apprehension of such as shall be founde to commit any thing in contempt of this present Proclamation.
