¶ A very rich Lotterie generall, without any Blanckes, contayning a great number of good Prices, aswel of redy Money as of Plate and certaine sorts of Marchaundizes, hauing ben valued and priced by the commaundment of the Queenes most excellent Maiestie, by men expert and skilfull: and the same Lotterie is erected by hir Maiesties order, to the intent that suche commoditie as may chaunce to arise thereof after the charges borne, may be conuerted towardes the reparation of the Hauens, and strength of the Realme, and towardes such other publique good workes. The number of Lots shall be Foure hundreth thousand, and no moe: and euery Lot shall be the summe of Tenne shillings sterling onely, and no more.
- THE FIRST person to whome any Lot shal happen, shal haue for his welcome (bysides the aduauntage of his aduenture) the value of fiftie poundes sterling in a piece of syluer Plate gilte.
- THE SECOND to whome any Lot shall happen, shall haue in like case for his welcome (bysydes his aduenture) the summe of thirtie poundes in a piece of Plate gilt.
- THE THIRD to whome any price shal happen, shal haue for his welcome (bisides his aduenture) the value of twentie pounds in a piece of Plate gilte.
The Prices.
WHOSOEVER shall winne [...] greatest and most excellent price, shall receiue the value of Fiue thousande Poundes sterling, that is to say, Three thousande Pounds in [...] [...]ney, Seuen hundreth Poundes in Plate gilte and white, and the rest in good Tapissarie meete for hangings and other couertures, and certaine sortes or good Linnen cloth.
VVHOSOEVER shal winne the second great price, shal haue the value of Three thousand and Fiue hundreth Pounds, that is to say, Two thousand Poundes in ready Money, Six hundreth Poundes in Plate gilt and white, and the rest in good Tapissarie and in Linnen cloth.
VVHOSOEVER shall winne the third great price, shal haue the value of Three thousand Poundes, that is to say, A thousand & Fiue hundreth Pounds in readie Money, Fiue hundreth Poundes in Plate gilt and white, and the rest in good Tapissarie and Linnen cloth.
VVHOSOEVER shall winne the fourth great price, shal receiue the value of Two thousand Poundes, that is to say, One thousand Pounds in ready Money, Foure hundreth Poundes in Plate gilt and white, and the rest in good Tapissarie and Linnen cloth.
VVHOSOEVER shal winne the fifth great price, shal receiue the value of One thousande and Fiue hundreth Pounds, that is to say, Seuen hundreth and Fiftie Pounds in ready Money, Three hundreth Poundes in Plate gilt and white, and the rest in good Tapissarie and Linnen cloth.
VVHOSOEVER shall winne the sixt great price, shall receiue the value of One thousand Pounds, that is to say, Fiue hundreth Poundes in ready Money, Two hundreth Poundes in Plate gilt and white, and the rest in good Tapissarie and Linnen cloth.
VVHOSOEVER shall winne the seuenth great price, shall receiue the value of Seuen hundreth Poundes, that is to say, Foure hundreth Poundes in ready Money, One hundreth Poundes in Plate gilt and white, and the rest in good Tapissarie and Linnen cloth.
VVHOSOEVER shall winne the eight great price, shall receiue the value of Fiue hundreth Poundes, that is to say, Two hundreth and Fifty Pounds in ready Money, One hundreth poundes in Plate gilt and white, and the rest in good Tapissarie and Linnen cloth.
VVHOSOEVER shall winne the ninth great price, shall receiue the value of Foure hundreth Poundes, that is to say, Two hundreth and Fifty Poundes in ready Money One hundreth Poundes in Plate gilt and white, and the rest in good Tapissarie and Linnen cloth.
VVHOSOEVER shall winne the tenth great price, shall receiue the value of Three hundreth Poundes, that is to say, Two hundreth Poundes in ready Money, Fifty Poundes in Plate, and the rest in good Tapissarie and Linnen cloth.
VVHOSOEVER shall winne the eleuenth great Price, shall receiue the value of Two hundreth and Fiftie Poundes, that is to say, One hundreth and Fiftie poundes in ready Money, Fiftie Poundes in Plate, and the rest in good Tapissarie and Linnen cloth.
VVHOSOEVER shall winne the twelfth great price, shall receiue the value of Two hundreth Poundes, that is to say, in ready Money One hundreth and Fifty Poundes, and the rest in good Tapissarie and Linnen cloth.
VVHOSOEVER shall winne the thirtenth great price, shall receiue the value of One hundreth and Fourty Poundes, that is to say, One hundreth Poundes in ready Money, and Fourty Poundes in Plate, Tapissarie, or Linnen cloth.
TVVELVE prices, euery pryce of the value of One hundreth Poundes, that is to say, Three score and Tenne Pounds in ready Money, and Thirtie Poundes in Plate, Tapissarie, or Linnen cloth.
TVVENTY and foure prices, euery price of Fifty Poundes, that is to say, Thirty Poundes in ready Money, and Twenty Poundes in Plate, Tapissarie, or Linnen cloth.
THREE score prices, euery price of Foure and twenty Poundes and Tenne shillings, that is to say, Seuentene Poundes in ready Money, and Seuen Poundes Tenne shillings in Plate.
FOVRE score and ten prices, euery price of Two and twenty Poundes Tenne shillings, that is to say, Fiftene Poundes in ready Money, and Seuen Poundes Tenne shillings in Plate.
ONE hundreth and fourtene prices, euery pryce of Eightene Poundes, that is to say, Twelue Poundes in Money, and Six Poundes in Plate gilt and white.
ONE hundreth and twentie prices, euery price of Twelue Pounds and Ten shillings, that is to say, Seuen Poūds Ten shillings in Money, and Fiue Pounds in like Plate.
ONE hundreth and fifty prices, euery price of Eight Poundes, that is to say, Fiue Poundes in Money, and Three Poundes in Linnen cloth.
TVVO hundreth prices, euery price of Six Poundes Tenne shillings, that is to say, Foure Poundes in Money, and Fifty shillings in Linnen cloth.
THREE hundreth prices, euery price of Foure Poundes Ten shillings, that is to say, Fifty shillings in Money, and Fourty shillings in Linnen Cloth.
FIVE hundreth prices, euery price of Three Poundes Ten shillings, that is to say, Fourty shillings in Money, and Thirty shillings in Linnen cloth.
FIVE hundreth prices, euery price of the value of Three Poundes in Plate.
FIVE hundreth prices, euery price of Fiftie shillings in Money.
TVVO thousande prices, euery price of Fortie shillings in Plate.
SIX thousande prices, euery price of Fiue and twentie shillings in Money.
TEN thousand prices, euery price of Fiftene shillings in Money.
NINE thousand, Foure hundred and Eightene prices, euery price of Fouretene shillings in Money.
AND all the rest to the accomplishing of the aforesayd number of Lottes, shal be allowed for euery aduenture at the least Two shillings & six pens in ready Money.
¶ Conditions ordained for the aduauntage of the Aduenturers in this Lotterie, bysides the Prices before mentioned in the Charte.
THE Queenes Maiestie of hir power royall, giueth libertie to all maner of persons that will aduenture any Money in this Lotterie, to resort to the places vnderwritten, and to abyde and depart from the same, in maner and forme following: that is to say, to the Citie of London, at any time within the space of one Moneth next folowing the feast of S. Bartholomew this present yeare. 1567. and there to remaine seuen days: And to these Cities and townes folowing, Yorke, Norwich, Exceter, Lincolne, Couentrie, Southampton, Hull, Bristoll, Newcastell, Chester, Ipswich, Sarisbury, Oxforde, Cambridge and Shrewesbury, in the Realme of Englande, and Dublyn and Waterforde in the Realme of Ireland, at any time within the space of three weekes next after the publication of this Lotterie in euery of the sayd seuerall places, and there to remaine also seuen whole days, without any molestation or arrest of them for any maner of offense, sauing treason, Murder, pyracie, or any other felonie, or for breach of hir Maiesties peace, during the time of their comming, abidyng, or retourne.
AND that euery person aduenturing their Money in this Lotterie, may haue the like libertie in comming and departing to and from the Citie of London, during all the time of the reading of the same Lotterie, vntill their last aduenture be to them answered.
ALSO that whosoeuer vnder one deuise, prose, or poesie, shall aduenture to the number of Thirtie Lottes and vpward, within three Monethes next folowing after the sayd feast of saint Bartholomew, and by the hazarde of the prices contained in this Lotterie, gaineth not the thirde pennie of so much as they shall haue aduentured, the same third pennie, or so much as wanteth of the same, shall be allowed vnto them in a: yearely pention, to begin from the day when the reading of the sayd Lotterie shall ende, and to continue yearely during their life.
VVHOSOEVER shall gaine the best, seconde, and thirde great prices, hauing not put in the posies (wherevnto the sayd prices shall be answerable) into the Lotterie, within three Moneths next after the said feast of Saint Bartholomew, shall haue abated and taken out of the summe of Money contained in the sayd best price, One hundreth and Fiftie pounds, and of the sayd second price One hundreth pounds, and out of the said third price Foure score pounds, to be giuen to any towne corporate, or Hauen, or any other place, for any good and charitable vse, as the partie shall name and appoint in writing.
AND whosoeuer shall gaine a Hundreth poundes or vpward, in any price, sauing the three seuerall best prices next afore mentioned, hauing not put in his Lots, wherby he shall gaine any such price, within three moneths next folowing the sayd feast of Saint Bartholomew, shall haue abated and deducted (as aboue is sayd) out of euery Hundred Poundes Fiue Pounds, to be employed as is next before sayd.
VVHOSOEVER hauing put in Thirtie Lottes vnder one deuise or poesie, within the sayd three Moneths, shal winne the last Lot of all, (if before that Lot wonne he haue not gained so much as hath ben by him put in,) shal for his long tarying and yll fortune be comforted with the reward of Two hundreth poundes, and for euery Lot that he shall haue put in bisydes the sayd Thirty Lots, he shall haue Twentie shillings sterlyng.
AND whosoeuer hauing put in .xxx. Lots vnder one deuise or posie, within the sayd three Moneths, shal win the last Lot saue one, & haue not gained so much as he hath put in, shal likewise be cōforted for his long tarying, with the reward of .C. pounds, and for euery Lot that he shal haue put in aboue .xxx. shal receiue Ten shillings sterling.
ITEM whosoeuer shall aduenture from Fortie Lottes vpwarde, vnder one deuise or posie, shall haue libertie to lay downe the one halfe in readie Money, and giue in bond for the other halfe, to the Cōmissioner that in that behalfe shal be appointed to haue the Charge for that Citie or Towne, where the partie shal thinke good to pay his money, with condition to pay in the same money, for the which they shal be bound, Six wekes at the least before the day appointed for the Reading of the Lotterie, vpon payn to forfaite the Money payde, and the benefit of any price. Which day of reading shall begyn within the Citie of London the .xxv. day of Iune next comming.
AND in case it shall fortune the same day of the Reading to be prolonged vpon any vrgent nedefull cause to a further day: The parties hauyng aduentured and put their money into the Lotterie, shall be allowed for the same, after the rate of Ten in the Hundred, from the day of the prorogation of the sayd Readyng, vntill the very day of the first Reading of the Lotterie.
ITEM euery person to whome in the time of Reading any price shal happen and be due, the same price shal be deliuered vnto him the next day folowing, to dispose of the same at his pleasure, without that he shal be compelled to tary for the same vntil the ende of the reading. And being a straunger borne, he shal haue libertie to conuert the same being money, into wares to be by him transported into foraine parts, paying only half custome for the same, and other duties that otherwise he should answer therfore.
VVHOSOEVER at the time of the Reading shall haue three of his owne posies or deuises comming togethers successiuely and immediatly one after another, the same hauing put in the sayd three posies within thre Moneths (as before) shall haue for the same posies or deuises, so comming together one after another, Three pounds sterling, ouer and besydes the price answerable therfore.
AND whosoeuer at the time of the reading shall haue foure posies or deuises comming togethers successiuely and immediately one after another, hauing put in his sayd posies within three Monethes, (as before mentioned) shall haue for the sayd foure posies or deuises Six poundes sterling bisides the prices.
AND whosoeuer at the time of the reading shall haue fiue posies or deuises comming togethers successiuely and immediatly one after another, hauyng put in his Lottes within three Moneths (as before) shall haue for the sayd fiue posies or deuises, Ten pounds sterling bysides the prices.
AND whosoeuer shal haue the like aduēture six tymes togethers, hauing put in his Lots, as afore, shal haue for those .vj. posies or deuises .xxv. Pounds sterling, & the prices.
AND whosoeuer shal haue like aduēture seuen times togethers hauing put in his Lots (as afore) shal haue for those .vij. posies or deuises a hūdreth poūds sterling & his prices.
AND whosoeuer shal haue the like aduenture eight times togethers, hauing put in his Lots (as afore) shal haue for those Eight, Two hundreth pounds sterling, & the prices.
AND so the posies or deuises resorting togethers by increase of number, he to whom they shall happen in that sorte, hauing put in his money, as afore is sayd, shal haue for euery tyme of increase, One hundreth poundes sterling, and the prices.
THE Receipt & Collection of this present Lotterie shal endure for the rest of the Realme bisides Lōdon, vntil the .xv. day of April next cōming, which shalbe in the yere. 1568.
AND the Receipt and Collection of the Citie of London shal continue vnto the first day of May next following: At which dayes or before, all the Collectours shal bring in their bokes of the collection of Lottes to such as shal be appointed to receiue their accomptes, vpon paine if they do faile so to do, to lose the profite and wages appointed to them for their trauell in that behalfe.
FINALLY it is to be vnderstanded, that hir Maiestie and the Citie of London will answere to all and singular persons hauyng aduentured their money in this Lotterie, to obserue all the articles and conditions contained in the same, from point to point inuiolably.
The shewe of the Prices and Rewardes aboue mentioned, shal be set vp to be séene in Cheapesyde in London, at the Signe of the Quéenes Maiesties Armes, in the house of M. Dericke, Golosmith, seruant to the Queenes most excellent Maiestie.
