The first period from Adam his Creation vn­to the birth of Noah hath 1056. yeares.

Day. 1 Heauen & earth. THe first day of the world God created Heauen and earth, containing a cōfused masse, wherof afterwardes all things were made. This day was our Sonday, or the Lordes day: and as is thought, the 22. day of the moneth of Aprill. The Light. Then God created the light, separated it from the darkenesse, and called it Day. Genesis 1. 1. 5.

Day. 2 The Fir­mament. The second day being our Monday, God made the firmament, and called it by the name of Hea­uens. Gen. 1. 6. 8.

Day. 3 Land, Sea, herbs, &c. The third day which was our Tuesday, God sepa­rated [Page 2] the waters from couering the earth, which at his commandement brought forth grasse, hearbes, and trees, hauing their seede and fruit. Gen. 1. 9. 13.

Day. 4 Sunne, Moone, Starres. The fourth day being our Wednesday, God made & placed in the firmament of Heauē, the Sunne Moone, and Starres. Gen. 1. 14. This day being the fiue and twentith of Aprill, was that time of the Spring wherein the daies and nights are of one length. Then also the Moone was in the Prime. Other referre the creation vnto the moneth of September.

Day. 5 Fish and foules. The fifth day which was our Thursday, God made the fishes and foules, with all that liue in the waters, and flie in the aire Gen. 1. 20. 23.

Day. 6 Beastes &c. The sixth day, our Friday, God created first all beasts and things creeping vpon the earth. Gen. 1. 24. 31. Secondly Adam and Eue according to the image of God. Gen. 1. 26. Man and woman. Marriage. The same day ma­riage was instituted. Gen. 2. 22, 23.

Day. 7 The Sab­both. The seauenth day, our Saturday, God hauing fini­shed his worke of creation, ceased or rested, sanctified this day vnto man, and called it the Sabboth. Gen. 2. 3.

Creation of Angels. The creation of the Angels is most probably assi­gned vnto the first day. Of these some hold the integritie of their creation, and are called holy and elect Angels: The fall of Angels. some are falne, and called Deuils, whose fall is most certaine; but the time of their fall vncertaine: sauing that they must needes fall before the fall of man.

The fall of Man. The fall of Adam and Eue being most certaine, the day and time is vncertaine: and therefore it is curiositie to inquire, where the word keepeth si­lence, and boldnes to pronounce. That they fell not the day of their creation, beside the multi­tude [Page 3] Y.W. 19 & variety of things done before and after the same day, which requireth tract of time: This seemeth plainly to argue, that the sixt day is concluded by Moses, with these words: And God beheld all that he had made, and lo it was exceeding good: so the euening and morning was made the sixt day Codomannus assigneth Adams fall vnto the nine­teenth day of the world, which was the foure­tenth of the first moneth, and the tenth of May. His reason is from the institution of the Passe­ouer. Exod. 12. Some referre it vnto the eight day, in which Christ rose from the dead.

Man resto­red. The same day wherein they fell, they receaued the promise of grace in the seede of the woman, which should breake the Serpents head. Gen. 3. 15.

Caijn and Abel, b. In the end of the first yere of the world were borne Caiin and Abel (if they were twinnes.) If also these were the first of Adams children, as should appeare by the reason of Caiin his name. Gen. 41.

Y.W. 129 Abel slaine. After this vnto the murther of Abel, the family of Adam was greatly multiplied in both sexes: And therefore the same is most fitly to be as­signed vnto the yeare 129. or not much lesse. Gen. 4. 8.

Y.W. 130 Seth, b. About the ende of this yeare Seth was borne, in whom the line of Christ was recōtinued, which seemed vnto Eue to be broken off in the death of Abel. Gen. 5. 3.

Nimrod. Nimrod (called of the Heathen Saturnus Babylonius) began to reigne in Mesopotamia and Chaldaea one hundred thirty & one yeare after the flood. Gen. 10. 8. When he had built Babel, Erech, Ac­cad and Calneh. Gen. 10. 10.

Y.W. 1819 Serug. b. Serug was borne, his father Regu being two and thirty yeares old. Gen. 11. 20.

The promise renued. God appeared there againe to Abram, being of the age of three score and fifteene yeares. Gen 12. 4. He and his house departed from Charran, came into the land of Canaan, and built an altar vnto the Lord in the plaine of More, where God appeared vnto him, and confirmed the coue­nant. Gen. 12. 7.

Thence he trauelled Eastward, built an altar be­tweene Bethel and Haye, and called vppon the name of the Lord. Gen 12. 8.

Melchise­dec. At this time reigned Melchisedec king of Salem, who was Priest of the most high God, met A­bram returning from the battell, releeued him with victuals, blessed him, and receaued tithe of his spoiles. Some without great cause haue thought him to be Sem: But it is more modestie & lesse danger to follow the Apostle, who from the silence of Moses in this part, testifieth, that [Page 8] he was a figure of Christ: and not by seeking his name and parentage, to destroy the figure, and controll the spirit of God. Hebr. 7. 3. Gen. 14 18. Tremelius & Iunius call him Regulum Cananaeum, that is, A litle Cananite king.

Vision. Promise. After this God appeared to Abraham, who com­plaineth of his barrennesse: God promised him a sonne of his owne bodie, and that his seede should be multiplied as the starres of heauen: which Abram beleeued, & it was imputed vnto him for righteousnes. God foretellerh the bon­dage of Abram his seede in a strange lande, and their deliuerance, in the fourth generation. He confirmeth the promise of the land of Canaan. Gen. 15.

Y.W. 2094 Hagar. Sarai giueth Hagar vnto Abram to be his wife, whē he had dwelt ten yeares in Canaan. Gen. 16. 2.

Ismael. b. The same yeare was borne Ismael of Hagar, when Abram was foure score and six yeares old. Gen. 16. 15, 16.

Y.W. 2096 Arphaxad, d. Arphaxad died of the age of foure hundred thir­ty and eight yeares. Gen. 11. 13.

Y.W. 2107 When Abraham was foure score and nineteene yeares old, God appeared vnto him, renued the couenant, called his name Abraham, Circumcisiō that is the father of many nations, and instituted the sacra­ment of circumcision. The thirtie yeares after the death of Ioseph vnto the birth of Moses were the yeares both of the increase of the children of Israel, and wherein the Egiptians oppressed them; first with ex­treame labour and most cruell exaction. Exod. 1. 12. 14. Then by commanding that euery man­child should be cast into the riuer. Exod. 1. 22.

Y.W. 2392 Leui died being of an hundred thirtie and seauen yeares old.

Iob. The historie of Iob is most probably assigned vnto the time of the children of Israell their continu­ance in Egipt, as the names of persons and pla­ces do argue, & the length of Iob his life men­tioned. chap. 42. 16. Also by the names of his children, his language &c. it seemeth he was an [Page 13] Hebrue descended of Abraham, as were the rest mentioned in that history: some thinke that the storie it selfe was penned by Moses.

Y.W. 2434 Moses, b. Moses was borne this yeare, kept three moneths, cast out, taken vp by Pharaoh his daughter, and nursed for hir son. Exod. 2. 2. &c. & brought vp in all the wisedome of the Egiptians. Act. 7. 22.

Y.W. 2438 Deluge. This yeare was that great deluge in Thessalia, whereof the Heathen writers make mention, in the fourescore & two yeres of Deucaliō his age.

Y.W. 2470 Iosuah, b. Iosuah was borne foure & fortie yeares before the deliuerance of Israel out of Egipt. Iosuah. 24. 29.

Towards the end of this yeare, God appeared vn­to Moses in mount Horeb in a burning bush, and called him expressely vnto the deliuerance of his people; gaue him instructions of duetie, and promise of successe. Exod. 3. At first he refu­seth the charge, and excuseth himselfe: but be­ing confirmed by miracles and promise of [Page 14] helpe from God, reproued for his resistance and ioyned with his brother Aaron; he taketh it vp­on him.

Circumcisi­on. Moses is compelled in the way to circumcise his sonne. He taketh his leaue of Iethro, and mee­teth with Aaron: with whom he deliuered all these things vnto the children of Israel. Exod. 4. 29. Pharao. After they go vnto Pharao with their mes­sage. He reprooued them; and more oppres­sed the people: who cried out vpon Moses and Aaron. Moses complained vnto the Lord, and and is confirmed. Exod. 5. 22.

He is againe sent, first vnto the children of Israell, and then vnto Pharao. Exod. 6. 13. God the third time sendeth him vnto Pharao, he excu­seth himselfe, but after yeeldeth. Exod. 7. 6.

Serpent. The seuen & twentith of March, Moses staffe was turned into a serpent, before Pharao, and de­uoured the staues of the Soothsayers. Exod. 7. 10. 12.

The foure last dayes of March and the three first of Aprill, the waters of Egypt were turned into blood. Exod. 7. 17.

Frogges. The fourth of Aprill came the frogges. Exod. 8. 6.

Grashop­pers. The fourth day of this yeare came the grassehop­pers, which being remoued, Pharao his heart was hardened. Exod. 10. 13. Darknesse. The sixt, seuenth, & eight day, palpable darkenes was ouer the land. Exod. 10. 22.

The ninth day of the first moneth Pharao for­bad Moses to come any more in his sight. Mo­ses denounced the death of the first borne. Exod. 10. 28.

Lambes. The tenth day of the moneth Abib the Israelites at the commandement of God, separated lambs for the Passeouer. Exod. 12. 3. Iewels. The same day and the three following the Israelits and their wiues borowed pretious things of the Aegyptiās. Exo. 12. 35.

The first Passeouer. The fourteenth day of the first moneth, which this yeare was the fiue and twentieth of A­prill, in the euening was slaine the first passe­ouer, and the blood sprinkeled vpon the doore posts of the Israelites. First borne slaine. The night following were slaine all the first borne of Egypt both men and beastes. Succoth. The Egyptians driue out the Israelites, who the day following departed from Rameses and came to Sucoth, Exod. 12. 33. Num. 33. 3. 5. Now were finished the foure hundred and thir­tie yeares of the peregrination of Abrahams seed. Exod. 12. 40.

Etam. The sixteenth day which was the seuen & twentith of Aprill, they pitched their tents in Etam. Exo. 13. 20. Cloud. The Lord going before them in a cloudy piller by day, and a fierie piller by night. Exod. [Page 16] 13. 21. The seuenteenth day they pitched in the valley of Hiroth. Exod. 14. 9. where they were o­uertaken of the Egyptians.

The night following they passed with dry feet tho­rough the red sea. The Egyptians following them with Pharao, are drowned. Exod. 14. 22. 23. The eighteenth day, which being the nine and twentith of Aprill, was Sonday and the first of those fiftie daies, the last whereof is called Whitsontide.

Murmure. The twentith day of the first moneth, which was the first of May, Mara. they pitched in Mara, and there murmured hauing wanted water for three daies Moses directed of God cureth the waters of Mara. Exod. 15. 25.

Quailes. The fifteenth day of the second moneth, being the the six and twentith of May, the Israelites came into the desert of Syn: where God gaue them quailes. Exod. 16. 13. Manna. The sixtenth day they first did eate Manna sent them from heauen, which was a figure of Christ. Ioh. 6. 31. 38. Sabboth. The two and twentith day was the Sabboth, wherein they found no Manna. Exod. 16. 27.

Not long after the two and fiftith day of this yeare they pitched their tentes in Ra [...]p [...]m, where Moses strake the rocke, and waters flowed out. Ex. 17. 6. This also was a figure of Christ. 1. Cor. 10. Amalek ouerthrown Magistrats ordained. Iosuah ouerthrew the Amalakits Exo. 17. 13.

Moses appointed Magistrates by the counsell of Iethro. Exod. 18. 19. 24. Who then brought Zippora and her two sonnes vnto Moses: Eliezer. wher­by appeareth that Eliezer Moses second sonne was borne somewhat after the departure of the children of Israel out of Egipt.

The Law giuen. The three score & seauenth day of this yere, being the seauenth of the third mo [...]eth, was the feast of Pentecost & our sunday. Altar. The second day after, Moses buildeth an altar, and offereth sacrifice. 70. Elders. Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abi­hu, and the three score and ten elders appeare before the Lord. Moses and Iosuah go into the mountaine & tarrie fortie daies. The golden calfe. About the end wherof was made the goldē calfe. The 107▪ day was our friday, on which Aaron built an Altar, and said, to morrowe shall be a feast vnto the Lord. Exod. 32. 5.

The 108. day of this yeare which was the 28. of Iu­lie. Moses hauing receaued the law written with the finger of God in two tables of stone, came downe from the mountaine, & being angry with the calfe that Aaron had made, The first ta­bles broken. brake the tables at the foot of the mountaine. The Leuites slay three thousand Israelits at the commandement of Moses. Exod. 32. 27.

Tabernacle raised. The hundred and ninth day, the nine and twentith of Iuly, Moses praieth for the people: comman­deth them to lay aside all their ornaments, and raiseth the Tabernacle of the couenant.

Two other tables. The hundred and tenth day, the thirtith of Iuly Moses desireth to see the face of God, is com­manded to make two other tables of stone, wherewith the second morning after he ascen­deth into mount Sinai, and tarrieth with th [...] Lord fortie daies, praying for the people. The hundred and one fiftieth day of this yeare, which was the ninth of September, The two ta­bles. Moses came with the two tables, out of the mountaine. Moses face glorious. His face shone with such glorie, that he could not speake vnto the people vncouered. Exod. 34. 33.

The seuen last moneths of this yeare, which was the first yeare of the departure of Israel out of Egypt, were done the things cōtained in the 35, 36, 37, 38. and 39. chapter of Exodus. Namely the place of the Tabernacle was prepared with all the furniture thereto belonging.

Y.W. 2516 This second yeare of Israels departure out of E­gypt, and the first day of the first moneth, Tabernacle erected. Moses erected the habitation of the tabernacle of the Couenant. Exod. 40. 1. and heard of God the things contained in the first eight Chapters of Leuiticus. Cloud and piller. From this time the cloud couered the tabernacle by day, and was turned into a piller of fire by night, during the passages of Israel. Num. 9. 15. 16. 33.

Aaron an­nointed. Moses annointeth Aaron and his sonnes. Exod. 40. 13. 15. Leuit. 8. The same day the Princes offer reliefe for the Leuites. Numb. 7. 2.

The seuenth day of the first moneth was the last of the sanctification of Aaron and his sonnes. Le­uit. 8. Exod. 29.

Aaron his first sacri­fice. The eight day Aaron and his sonnes first offer sa­crifice. The glorie of God appeareth vnto the people. Fire from the Lord consumeth the sa­crifices. Leuit. 9. 24. Leuites. The Leuites also were numbred, and found males two and twentie thousand: fewer then the first borne of the Israelites by two hundred seuentie and three. Num. 3. 15.

Remoue. The twentith day of the same moneth, the cloud ascended, & the Israelites remoued three daies iourney out of the desert of Sinay, towards the desert of Paran, vnto the graues of concupi­scence. Num. 11. 33. About the three and twen­tith day, fire from the Lord consumed the out coasts of Israel. Num. 11. 1. vntill the foure and twentith of the third moneth, Quailes. they eate Quailes one whole moneth, Plague. and after a great plague, they remoue vnto Hazaroth. Num. 11. Miriam. there Miriam is stroken with leprosie for seuen daies. Num. 12. 10. from thence they came into the desert of Paran, neere vnto Cades Barnea.

Thence were sent 12 spies into the land of Ca­naan, which returned after fortie days. Num. 13. 26. tenne of them were suddenly destroied, for that they caused the people to murmure a­gainst God. Then was fulfilled the prophesie of Esay concerning Cy­rus, cap. 44. 5. The Lions denne. After this Daniel was cast into the Lions den, and myraculously delyuered. Dan. 6. 16. 23.

Y.W. 3605 The 9. day of the fift moneth were ended the 70. yeres of the desolation of Ierusalē. The first day of the 7. moneth, the Iewes thē returned, assem­bled themselues at Ierusalē, & the same moneth offered sacrifices, The feast of tabernacles. & held the feast of Taberna­cles. Esd. 3. 1. 4. This yere died Darius Medus, ha­uing helde the Empire of Babylon onely two yeares with Cyrus.

Y.W. 3691 Vnto this time, or some like of the reformation of the Church, Malachie proph. may be referred the prophesie of Malachie, the last of all the Prophets of the old Testament. Who exhorteth not vnto the buil­ding of the Temple, as did Haggay and Zacha­rie, but after the Temple was built and religion established, reproueth the abuses and profana­tions of the time, and namely, against their en­tertaining of strange wiues.
