The vse of this Table following.

IF vpon a scale or ruler you diuide one inch into 10 equall parts or primes, and againe by diagonal and paralell lines if you subdiuide each of them into 10 equal parts or seconds, as my Trigonal Scales are diuided with your compasses you may take of more exact running measure for boorde and timber then by any other meanes whatsoeuer, and so place the same, or this Table if you will vpon any rule.

Also by meanes of the columne of square roots, you may readily finde a square equal to any paralelipepidon or péece of timber which is thicker then it is broade. As for example, suppose a péece of Timber to be 10 inches thicke, and 29 inches broad: if I multiply those sides one by another, they will produce 290, then séekeing in that columne I finde 289 the néerest number [...] 290 to stand against 17: therefore I say 17 inches fere will make a square equall to such an vnlike squared péece: then looking in the columne of Timber measure against 17, you shall finde that 5 inches 9 primes or 9/10, and 8 seconds, or 8/100 of an inch in length of that péece will make a foote of Timber. By the like meanes you may finde how much in length of any bredth of boorde must be in one foote.

Likewise for boorde measure, suppose for example that a boode appointed to be measured is 15 inches ¾ broade, if I desire to know how much in length thereof will make a foote. I séeke in the columnes that stand vnder the title of vnites & parts for 15¾, and also ouer against the same in the columne vnder the title of boord measure, where I finde 9 ynches 1 prime or tenth of an inch, and 4 seconds or hundreths of an inch will make a foote at that breadth: the like may bee practised for any other breadth of boord whatsoeuer.

A TABLE OF BOORDE AND Timber measure, more perfect then euer hath beene made; shewing also the Square roote betweene 4 and 31 from quarter to quarter, Calculated by R. N.
