A COPIE OF THE SVBMISSION, WHICH THOSE OF THE Reformed Religion in France requested the Viscount of Doncaster, Ambassadour extraordinarie from his Maiestie of Great Britain, to present in their behalfe to the King their Soueraigne.

SIR,

WE, your Maiesties most humble, most faithfull, and most obedient subiects, who in your kingdomes, and soueraigntie of Bearn, make profession of the Reformed Religion, doe in all humilitie remonstrate to your Maiestie, that as we neuer affected any thing more then to be preserued in the honour of your favour, (which we haue promised our selues in regard of our constant loyaltie, alwayes witnessed by vs and ours, towards the good of your seruice, and the [Page] greatnesse and strength of your kingdoms) so also could neuer any thing proue more to our discontentment, then to see our selues thereof depriued. In which regard hauing recourse to your goodnesse and royall clemencie, we beseech your Maiestie, that, with returne of peace to your estate, you will be pleased to restore vs to your fauour, and repossesse vs of the benefit of the Edicts, declarations, graces and grants affoorded vs both by your Maiestie and the deceased King Henrie the Great, of immortall memorie; for which we protest and vow neuer to depart from our most entire subiection, faith and obedience. And if your Maiestie hath taken offence at some of our actions, we humbly beseech you to beleeue that they were against our intention; which was neuer otherwise then to render all true faithfulnesse, obedience and respect vnto your Maiestie; and that what we haue done, hath bene by extreme and vrgent necessitie; which you may be pleased not to impute to vs as a crime, but rather to remit and pardon all, wherein we may haue displeased [Page] your Maiestie. For these respects (Sir) wee in all humilitie beseech you to grant vs a safe conduct, as well for such as it shall be needfull to send to the Prouinces and principall persons of our Religion, as to your Maiestie, to the end that prostrating our selues at your feete, we may confirme the true protestations of our sound fidelitie, obedience and subiection, and obtaine of your clemencie and goodnesse whatsoeuer shall be necessarie for the quiet and safetie of our Churches, vnder the benefit of your Maiesties Edicts. And wee shall be bound to iterate our continuall and most feruent prayers to God for the prosperitie of your Royall person, and conseruation of your estate.
