To gather a substantial corpus of natural speech from children in the early stages of acquisition of Welsh as a first language ; weekly tapes of 30-45 minutes over 9 months;

To investigate the development of syntax, especially clause structure, and to map out the typical pattern of development;

To use recent work on the development of syntax to illuminate the early stages of the development of Welsh syntax

To use the Welsh data to evaluate ideas about parameter setting and functional categories that have emerged in recent work on the development of syntax

To make the corpus available to other researchers through the CHILDES database
